Rescuers recover body of man after eight day search in Limerick

RESCUERS have recovered a man’s body from the River Shannon after he went missing eight days ago.

It is understood that the man was seen entering the river in Limerick City at around 3.30pm on Monday last (October 21).

Now, after an eight-day search, the man’s body has been recovered, Gardaí have confirmed.

“We can confirm that the search and rescue operation has ended and a body has been recovered from Shannon river in the Limerick City area on 29th October 2024,” a statement from An Garda Síochána said.

A Facebook post by Limerick Marine Search and Rescue Service said the man’s body was recovered by rescuers from Bunratty Search and Rescue.

Limerick Search and Rescue Service said in the post that their organisation alone dedicated 180 volunteer hours to the search.

In an earlier Facebook post, Bunratty Search and Rescue said they had been launching their crews twice daily in the search for the missing man.
