Legendary singer Mary Coughlan will mark her 40th year in music with the release of her new album, ‘Repeat Rewind’, and a special concert at the Lime Tree Theatre this Saturday, November 2.
Often hailed as Ireland’s greatest female vocalist, Coughlan’s distinctive blend of jazz, blues, and Irish folk has earned her comparisons to iconic singers like Billie Holiday and Edith Piaf. Her new single, What If I Do, showcases her emotional depth and playful vocals, while the album reflects on her career with a mix of introspective and humorous tracks.
Mary Coughlan’s new single, What If I Do, is a beautifully stripped-back love song that perfectly showcases her signature emotional honesty, delivered with a wry touch. Her playful, youthful vocals defy her 40 years in the music industry, reaffirming her place among the world’s most iconic and emotive singers.
Reflecting on her career, Coughlan says: “After 40 years in this business, I find myself looking back, replaying scenes from my life, and wondering… I walk around Galway and remember everything about growing up there. All those experiences made me who I am, and I’m at peace with that now—the good times and the bad. I’m still here, still working, and still loving it. I hope you enjoy this album.”
Her new album, Repeat Rewind, sees Mary at her most open and introspective with tracks like Repeat Rewind, I Can Let Go Now, and Really Gone. Yet, she hasn’t lost her trademark wit, as she tackles themes from domesticity (Marital Bliss) and relationships (Freefalling featuring Ultan Conlon) to women’s roles in Irish society (More Like Brigid). Fans will also enjoy her cover of The Beach Boys’ God Only Knows and the festive track Tinseltown. With this album, Mary Coughlan celebrates four decades in music with sincerity, humour, and heart.
Coughlan’s concert promises to be a celebration of her rollercoaster career, featuring songs close to her heart, alongside new favourites like Tinseltown and a cover of The Beach Boys’ God Only Knows. As Coughlan herself reflects on four decades in the industry, she remains as passionate as ever about performing and recording: “After 40 years, I’m still here, still working, and still loving it.”
