NEWCASTLE West deservedly overcame Garryspillane, 2-12 to 1-11, to win the Lyons of Limerick Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship at the Gaelic Grounds.

It’s an outcome that propels the west side into the senior ranks for 2025, a season which marks the centenary of its second and last senior success.

In stamina-testing conditions, quality second half goals from flying wing-forwards Diarmuid Kelly and Eoin Hurley were key scores for Derry McMahon’s side.

Hugh Flanagan nipped in for a late consolation goal for the Bouncers, quickly followed by the insurance score – a beauty – from Cathal Hayes.

NCW had led 0-6 to 0-4 at the break.
