MUSE Productions, Shannon are staging an adaptation of Shakespeare in Love, based on the film. Muse is an amateur community theatre group based in Shannon who have mounted many successful productions since forming in 2011.
Following their sell-out success with Forever Plaid, Muse Productions returns to the stage with Shakespeare in Love, marking the play’s Irish debut. Adapted by Tony and Olivier Award-winning writer Lee Hall from the 1998 screenplay, this comedy with music follows the young, penniless playwright William Shakespeare as he struggles with writer’s block. His fortunes change when he meets Viola de Lesseps, a wealthy merchant’s daughter with a secret passion for acting.
Their love affair inspires Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, but complications arise as Viola is promised to the wealthy Lord Wessex. With the play’s opening night and Viola’s wedding day approaching, their romance faces a race against time.
Co-directed by Ted Germaine and Martin McNelis, Shakespeare in Love promises humour, drama, and a lively performance. It will be staged at St. Patrick’s Comprehensive School, Shannon, from Wednesday, October 30 to Friday, November 1. Tickets can be booked online or via phone on www.ticketsource.eu/muse, or on 087-4136822.
