Record Room set for Portishead’s Andy Smith

This Saturday October 26.

Marking the 30th anniversary of Portishead’s groundbreaking album Dummy, The Commercial welcomes DJ Andy Smith to The Sevens series for a special set on Bank Holiday Saturday, October 26.

Known for his work as Portishead’s producer, sampler, and tour DJ, Smith will perform a rare mix of funk, reggae, soul, and hip hop in the intimate basement Record Room.

A Limerick favourite, Andy Smith—who was named one of the Top 20 Greatest DJs of All Time by Future Music Magazine and MusicRadar—hails from the same Bristol DJ scene as Portishead’s Geoff Barrow and Beth Gibbons. He provided samples for the band’s first two albums and toured globally with them.

As a pioneer of multi-genre compilations, Smith released The Document in 1998, blending sounds from funk to trip-hop. Gathering all this experience, playing almost exclusively from 7” vinyl, and with a rare ability to turn his hand to almost any genre, Andy is renowned for stitching together diverse, funk-driven sets, always specific to and driven by the night and crowd he’s playing to.

Tickets are available at www.thecommercial.pub and Eventbrite.
