AS THE witching season draws ever closer, Limerick City and County Council is reminding the young and young at heart that there’s something for everyone to enjoy across the county this Halloween.
There are events the length and breath of Limerick to scare people silly, or even just some mild-mannered mayhem for the faint hearted.
Schools mid-term breaks coincide with the Council’s packed programme of events, giving parents and children as many opportunities to get involved in the festivities as possible.
Samhain, Limerick’s Halloween Festival will return this year, culminating in a light-filled procession through the city streets with Lumen Street Theatre’s Fire and Shadows Parade.
The Scare Factory also returns in one of Limerick’s most iconic venues, the old Cleeve’s factory.
Running to October 31, The Scare Factory will send chills down spines from 7pm to 10pm nightly.
Halloween will pay a visit to Stonehall Wildlife Park in Askeaton, with a spooky trail, a scavenger hunt, and a chance to meet Mrs Witch. Events here take place from Saturday October 26 to Monday 28, with show times running from 11am to 5pm.
Two special candlelight concerts will take place on Halloween night (October 31) at St Mary’s Cathedral.
The first, A Haunted Evening of Halloween Classics, will kick off from 6.30pm, while at 9pm, horror movie soundtracks will fill the famous Treaty venue.
Castleconnell Fright Fest will take place from Sunday October 27, with events such as a talk on the history of the village, a craft exhibition, a spooky children’s film, and Castleconnell Fright Fest’s Scary Halloween trail.
The popular Curraghchase Pumpkin Patch returns again this year, as well as the Glinfest Pumpkin Patch Spooky Walk, while a special talk on bats in the city centre will also feature as part of Limerick’s Halloween offering.
Eileen Coleman, head of tourism at Limerick City and County Council, said that there is something for everyone across Limerick this Halloween and urged people of all ages to get involved.
“Limerick is bound to bewitch with groups and communities planning enchanting events right across the city and county this Halloween. Whether you are after some fangtastic family fun or ghoulish goings on for grown-ups – there is something for all to enjoy,” Ms Coleman said.
To make it easy for parents to find spooky events this Halloween, the Council have compiled a Halloween in Limerick guide, with details of all events available on limerick.ie.
