Council quizzed on measures to address shortage of emergency homeless beds

Sinn Féin councillor Sharon Benson asked the Council for an update on the provision of more emergency bed.

LIMERICK City and County Council were asked at a recent Metropolitan area meeting about the emergency measures in place to address the shortage of emergency accommodation beds, as the winter months approach.

Mary Hayes of the Council’s Housing Support Services told Sinn Féin councillor Sharon Benson that the Homeless Action Team (HAT) schedule a review meeting of the Winter Protocols annually.

This meeting was due to take place on Thursday September 26.

“At this meeting we will conduct a review of the protocol document in an effort to maximise the number of extra spaces available with our various providers,” Ms Hayes said.

In 2023 the Council were able to agree 12 extra spaces and are confident of securing this number again this winter.
