Teen recovering after overnight shooting in Limerick

A MAN in his late teens is recovering in hospital after sustaining injuries in a shooting in Limerick overnight on Sunday (October 20) in what is the latest in a string of violent incidents on the south side of the Treaty City.

The gun attack occurred around 8pm last night (Sunday) in the vicinity of Crecora Avenue, Ballinacurra Weston, located on the south side of Limerick City.

The man suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

A Garda spokeswoman said that “Gardaí are investigating all the circumstances in relation to the discharge of a firearm that occurred in Ballinacurra, Weston, Limerick on the night of Sunday 20th October, 2024 at approximately 8pm”.

“One man, aged in his late teens, was injured. He was taken to University Hospital Limerick where his condition remains stable.”

“Investigations are ongoing,” added the Garda spokeswoman.

Gardaí are investigating whether the shooting is linked to other recent violent incidents on the south side of Limerick City.

In the wake of the shooting, investigating Gardaí, operating out of Roxboro Road Garda Station, have appealed for witnesses to the incident to come forward.

A Garda spokeswoman issued a public appeal for assistance from “any person who was in the vicinity of Hyde Road, Ballinacurra area, on Sunday evening between 7.30pm and 8.30pm”.

Gardaí are also interested in speaking to “any road users who were travelling on the Hyde Road and surrounding areas during this time and who noticed any unusual activity”.
