RECOVERY works are ongoing today (Monday) in the wake of Storm Ashley, which blew across Ireland throughout Sunday.
Thousands of homes across the county were left without power across Sunday, with some still being restored into this Monday afternoon.
Some homes and businesses in Newcastle West and Churchtown may be waiting up until 4pm this evening for power to be restored.
More than 1,700 homes and businesses across the county were without power for portions of Sunday, while crews were dispatched by Limerick City and County Council to clear fallen trees and debris strewn about by Storm Ashley.
Winds of up to 130km/h were recorded around the country on Sunday, with power lost in over 53,000 homes nationwide.
A spokesperson for the Shannon Airport Group confirmed that 13 flights diverted flights were facilitated throughout Storm Ashley.
“While all Shannon Airport services operated to schedule (on Sunday), 13 flights were diverted to Shannon Airport, seven originally due to land at Cork Airport six due at Dublin Airport,” the spokesperson said.
Cleanup works in the fallout of Storm Ashley are ongoing throughout today.
