Gardaí and Defence Forces remain at scene of car fire in Limerick estate

Gardaí and Defence Forces attended the scene.

GARDAÍ and members of a Defence Forces bomb disposal unit remain at the scene of an incident in Limerick in which a car was destroyed by fire in the early hours of this Friday morning.

The black SUV remains parked on the street close to houses in the Star Court estate at John Carew Park in Limerick City.

A number of roads close to the scene have been cordoned off by Gardaí.

A robot attached to the Defence Forces is currently being utilised at the scene.

The robot was stationed near the burned out car as Gardaí and a member of the Defence Forces EOD unit examined the area.

A number of houses in the area are understood to have been evacuated.

When asked for information, a Garda spokeswoman issued a statement which read: “Gardaí attended the scene following report of an incident of criminal damage by fire, involving a car, at a property in Southill, Limerick City. The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday 18th October 2024.”

“The scene has been preserved for technical examination. Investigations are ongoing.”

A spokesman for the Defence Forces stated: “We do not comment on ongoing operations for reasons of operational security. We will be available for commentary once this operation has concluded.”
