Gardaí and army robot at scene of incident in Limerick City

GARDAÍ and members of a Defence Forces bomb disposal unit are currently at the scene of an incident in Limerick.

Part of a housing estate at Star Court, John Carew Park, situated on the outskirts of the city, has been cordoned off by Gardaí.

A robot attached to the Defence Forces is currently present at the scene.

The robot is stationed on a footpath outside houses at the housing estate.

A number of houses in the area are believed to have been evacuated.

When asked for information, a Garda spokeswoman issued a statement which read: “Gardaí attended the scene following report of an incident of criminal damage by fire, involving a car, at a property in Southill, Limerick City. The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday 18th October 2024.”

“The scene has been preserved for technical examination. Investigations are ongoing.”

A spokesman for the Defence Forces stated: “We do not comment on ongoing operations for reasons of operational security. We will be available for commentary once this operation has concluded.”
