RACING legend Tiger Roll will be a special guest on BoyleSports Munster National Day at Greenmount Park, Patrickswell, this coming Sunday (October 20).
The iconic horse will be paraded before the feature event.
The now retired superstar chaser is the most famous winner of the National (2016). The Gordon Elliot runner went on to land back-to-back Aintree Grand Nationals and become a five-time Cheltenham Festival winner.
Michael Lynch, CEO of Limerick racecourse, said that “the Munster National was the springboard for his very successful chasing career and we look forward to seeing him at Limerick again.”
Sharon McHugh, sponsor, added that “we’re very grateful to Michael O’Leary (owner) and Gordon, and his team, for bringing Tiger Roll back to Limerick to parade for racing fans. He’s a little horse but he’s got a huge personality and we’re sure racing fans will be delighted to see him.”
Greenmount Park is readying itself for its hugely attractive BoyleSports Munster National Festival this weekend.
The centrepiece is the hugely coveted JT McNamara Munster National (winners’ prize €60,000), alongside which will run the inaugural JP McManus and Family Charity Sweepstake on Sunday, which itself is worth €40,000 to the local charities shortlisted.
The National is run in memory of the late John Thomas (JT), a local jockey who sadly passed away in 2016.
On the point-to-point circuit, he enjoyed over 600 winners but whose considerable talent reached a greater audience through memorable victories at Punchestown and Cheltenham.
JT had a strong connection to the McManus family and trainer Enda Bolger through the likes of Risk of Thunder and Spot the Difference.
This year’s National will be an extra special event with local businessman JP McManus and family hosting a charity sweepstake on the race that will see eighteen local charities from the Mid West region receive a share of close to €40,000.
The National weekend kicks off on Saturday, which is Ladies’ Day.
