MAYOR John Moran has set out what he believes to be the best path to creating a new Limerick with the publication this week of his ambitious Limerick Mayoral Programme 2024-2029.

Titled ‘More for Limerick’, the 134-page document outlines the Mayor’s vision and objectives for his term in office, as mandated by the Local Government (Mayor of Limerick) and Miscellaneous Provisions Act 2024.

Mayor Moran deemed the finalised programme a reflection of the views of the community and the priorities and hopes of elected councillors and officials who contributed to its formation.

He expressed his gratitude to councillors for their “wisdom and suggestions” and said a unity of purpose will reap rewards for Limerick.

“I am most grateful for the constructive input into the formation of this critical document for Limerick. Delivering the Limerick described in the document will also require us to get our fair share from the organs of national government, and from the national agencies who also have a responsibility to help us succeed,” he said.

“We will all need to work together to pull the various levers to achieve this.”

Mayor Moran says that, in writing his mayoral masterplan, he “set out what I believe to be the best path to creating a new Limerick”.

“The ideas and actions set out hereafter will guide my hands for the next five years of my term. The initiatives outlined within aim to address the most pressing needs across Limerick, including housing, infrastructure, economic, and community development, while also aligning with the broader objectives of national and regional policy frameworks.”

Director General of Limerick City and County Council, Dr Pat Daly, says the executive stands ready to help deliver the ambitious programme.

The mayoral programme for Limerick is a landmark document that sets a clear and ambitious path for our city’s future. The executive team is fully committed to supporting Mayor Moran in realising this vision,” Dr Daly said.

“By working collaboratively with national government and agencies, we aim to leverage all available resources to meet the needs of our community.

“This programme is not just a plan but a promise to the people of Limerick to strive for a more vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable Limerick.”

Priomh Comhairleoir of Limerick City and County Council, Cllr Dan McSweeney (FG), also welcomed the publication of the mayoral programme, which he says “is a transformative vision for Limerick”.

“This document is the culmination of extensive collaboration and reflects many of the collective aspirations of our community,” he said.

“Mayor Moran has taken on board the concerns of councillors and incorporated our suggestions, ensuring that this programme addresses the diverse needs of all Limerick residents. Together, we are committed to making Limerick a more liveable, prosperous, and healthy place for everyone.”
