Man charged with producing slash-hook during violent dispute

A MAN appeared in court this Monday (October 14) charged with producing a slash-hook in violent circumstances at an address in Ennis, County Clare.

Patrick Donovan (25), with an address at Clancy Park, Ennis, County Clare appeared before Limerick District Court on Monday charged with production of a slash-hook during the course of a dispute at Acha Bhile, Lahinch Road, Ennis, last Friday, October 11.

Mr Donovan was arrested by Garda Declan Keavey, Ennis Garda Station, charge sheets stated.

The charge, contrary to Section 11 of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act, 1990, is where a person, while committing or appearing to be about to commit an offence, or in the course of a dispute or fight, produces, in a manner likely unlawfully to intimidate another person, any article capable of inflicting serious injury.

Mr Donovan was granted bail with consent by Gardaí on the basis that he would agree to adhere to a number of bail conditions.

Mr Donovan, represented in court by Ennis solicitor John Casey, agreed to several bail terms, including that he reside at an address set down by the court; obey a nightly curfew; stay out of specific areas of county Clare; and not use social media.

Judge Patricia Harney remanded Mr Donovan on bail to appear before Ennis District Court on December 11.

A second man, aged in his 40s, who was arrested by Gardaí in connection with the same ongoing investigation was later released without charge, pending a file to the Director of Public Prosecutions, Gardaí said.
