DOON’S dream of a first-ever Limerick Senior Hurling Championship is very much alive following an eye-catching defeat of multiple winners Patrickswell in the weekend semi-final at Kilmallock’s Fitzgerald Park, Kilmallock.
Comfortably ahead 0-16 to 1-7 at the interval, the east outfit eventually came through 2-24 to 2-12, with the lively Kevin Maher netting twice in the closing stages.
The ‘Well were at a numerical disadvantage for the majority of the second-half following the dismissal of last season’s Player of the Year Aaron Gillane.
Up next for Doon are holders Na Piarsaigh, who – only thanks to stoppage time point from Will Henn and a lifeline goal from Ronan Lynch on 50 minutes – squeezed past Kilmallock, 1-16 to 0-18, at Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale.
Shane O’Neill’s side had trailed 0-11 to 0-7 at half-time.
In the semi-finals of the Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship, Newcastle West (NCW) were 3-13 to 2-13 winners over Effin and Garryspillane accounted for Bruff, 2-14 to 1-14.
Eoin Hurley (0-8), Bryan Nix (1-2), Brian Hurley (1-0) and Brian Foley were chief scorers for NCW, while ‘Spillane had notable contributions from Hugh Flanagan (1-3), Dylan O’Shea (0-5), captain Colin Ryan (1-1) and Bryan Heavey, 0-3.
Into the Intermediate Final are Croagh/Kilfinny and Bruree, after victories against Feohanagh and Murroe/Boher, respectively.
