SPOOKY season is officially underway in Limerick with the Council unveiling a spine-chilling programme of events to take place across the county as Halloween creeps ever closer.

A 10-day celebration will take place countywide to transform Limerick into a hub of Halloween excitement.

Lumen Street Theatre will once again return to the streets with their Fire and Shadows parade, which will see the city’s streets filled with ghosts and ghouls, with spectators attending encouraged to turn out dressed in their spookiest costumes.

The Scare Factory will also return for the duration of the Halloween period, with Castleconnell Fright Fest also bringing the scares to the Limerick suburb.

Myths and spooky stories about our native winged creatures of the night will be explored at Bats in the City Centre, taking place on October 25 from 6.30pm. Attendees can learn all about the conservation of bats, as well as some spooky stories about the critters.

On Halloween night (October 31), St Mary’s Cathedral will hear the sounds of some of the most well-known horror movies performed by candlelight.

The ever-popular Curraghchase Pumpkin Patch returns too, running from October 12 to 31, while a Happy Halloween Experience will take place at the Jetland Shopping Centre with witch Hattie O’Goodspell, running from October 24 to 31.

For the more adventurous, a nighttime kayaking tour will take to the River Shannon from November 1 to 3.

Mayor John Moran is encouraging the people of Limerick to experience all the spooktacular offerings across the county, with something available to suit everyone.

“Halloween in Limerick is a highlight of our city’s cultural and fun calendar. This year, we are thrilled to offer an even more exciting line-up of events that will bring our community together and attract visitors from near and far. We invite everyone to join us for a truly memorable Halloween experience,” Mayor Moran said.

Head of marketing and communications with Limerick City and County Council, Donn O’Sullivan, added that Limerick has a unique offering that makes it perfect for Halloween celebrations.

“Limerick’s Halloween celebrations are second to none. Our city and county’s unique blend of history, culture, and community spirit makes it the perfect destination for Halloween festivities. We look forward to welcoming families and visitors to enjoy the magic and mystery of Halloween in Limerick,” Mr O’Sullivan said.
