Limerick Council shortlisted for six Excellence in Local Government awards

LIMERICK City and County Council (LCCC) has been shortlisted for no less than six awards at the Chambers Ireland Excellence in Local Government Awards for 2024.

A number of Limerick Council initiatives have been added to the shortlist for the awards, which seek to honour the dedication of local authority staff across the country.

LCCC has been shortlisted in the Diversity and Inclusion category for Limerick Migrant Integration Forum and in the Festival of the Year section for Riverfest, while the Regional Athletics Hub was shortlisted in the Municipal Districts initiative.

LCCC’s project ‘Living again: Vacancy, Dereliction, and Reuse’ initiative was given the nod in the Local Authority Innovation category, the ‘Building Economic Resilience in Housing – Modern Methods of Construction’ project was recognised in the Promoting Economic Development category, and in the Sustainable Environment and Biodiversity category, GoGreenRoutes (2020-2024) Horizon 2020 project was shortlisted.

This year’s awards saw a record number of 191 entries from local authorities all over Ireland. The ceremony is held annually in conjunction with the Department of Housing, Local Government, and Heritage.

Minister of State for Local Government and Planning, Alan Dillon, said that the awards are a chance to highlight the work being done by local authorities across the country.

“The Excellence in Local Government Awards provide a wonderful opportunity to highlight some of the incredible work being done in local authorities all across the country, and I am very pleased that my department is supporting the event again this year,” Minister Dillon said.
