Calls to remove Daly’s building from list of protected structures ‘not appropriate’, councillor told

FINE Gael councillor Liam Galvin has called on the local authority to remove Daly’s building on Main Street, Abbeyfeale, from the list of protected structures, as he considers it dangerous.

Responding at a recent Newcastle West district meeting, senior Council planner Maria Woods deemed the building as being of clear artistic quality and interest.

“The structure has both distinctive facade featuring decorative stucco by Pat McAuliffe and is also an intact example of 19th Century commercial interiors.

“Daly’s has not lost its special architectural, artistic, historic, or technical significance and its deletion from the record of protected structures is not considered warranted or appropriate,” she said.
