THE HUB BIKE FOR LIFE: Celebrating 10 Years of Cycling & Community in Limerick

The Hub Bike For Life store in Jetland Centre, Limerick.

Founded in 2014, by friends and cycling enthusiasts Hugh Morrissey and Alan Ryan, The Hub is celebrating a major milestone this year—10 years in business. From its original home at Coonagh to its new address at Jetland
Centre, The Hub has remained true to its mission: supporting the local community with
high-quality service, expert advice, and the best bikes for every type of rider.

Amidst the challenges facing retail, The Hub’s decade-long presence stands as a testament to its commitment to Limerick’s cycling community. “We’re not just a bike shop,” says Hugh, co-founder of The Hub. “We’ve built friendships, helped families get their first bikes, and supported elite road cyclists through their toughest races. “We are passionate about what we do. We are cyclists for cyclists.”

NEW LOCATION, SAME DEDICATION
Relocating to the Jetland Centre has provided The Hub with greater visibility, reaching more
people than ever before. With an estimated 70,000 visitors per week at Jetland, The Hub’s
customer base is expanding—but the shop’s core values remain unchanged.
“Whether it’s a child’s first bike for cycling to school, a commuter’s e-bike, a weekend
warrior’s mountain bike, or a ride for a recreational cyclist, club rider, sportive
participant, or elite racer, we’re here to make sure every customer gets the right bike in the
right size for their needs. Our motto is ‘bike for life.’”

E-BIKES ON THE RISE | A Growing Trend
One of the biggest changes in the bike industry in recent years is the growing popularity of e-bikes, and The Hub has been at the forefront of this shift. “We’ve seen a massive increase in e-bike sales,” according to Hugh’s partner and co-founder, Alan Ryan. “Just a few years ago, one in thirty bikes we sold was an e-bike. Now, it’s closer to one in ten. The technology is constantly evolving, and we’ve chosen to specialize in the very best BOSCH system e-bikes to meet our customer’s needs.”

GRAVEL BIKES AND BIKE PACKING
Gravel bikes are also becoming a hugely popular choice. “Cyclists are branching out into new terrains, and gravel bikes are perfect for the mix of road and off-road adventure,” Alan notes.

BUILDING A COMMUNITY… One Bike at a Time
Over the past decade, the Hub has nurtured relationships through events like weekend group rides, tailored cyclists of all levels. “We set up cycling groups where riders of different abilities could enjoy the sport together,” says Hugh “We’d pick routes and make sure everyone felt included, with regular stops for coffee to keep it sociable and fun while also pushing each other to improve.” This sense of community is reflected in the loyalty of customers, many of whom have grown with The Hub over the years.
“We’ve supported people from their first bike to their first Ironman,” Hugh adds.

A BIKE FOR LIFE
As The Hub enters into its next decade, its commitment to offering a bike for every type of
rider remains strong. “There’s a bike for everybody,” Hugh emphasises. “We have
families coming in, excited for their next adventure together, and then we have guys and
girls aiming to hit their next PB, pushing themselves to the limit. Whatever your cycling
goals are, the Hub has the right bike for you.”
As part of the celebrations, The Hub is delighted to launch its 10-year anniversary sale. 10 years in business, up to 50% off across the store, which will run for the whole month of October.
