Limerick man’s car stolen in the night

A SMALL slip up cost a Limerick man in his late 30 his car in a night-time burglary.

Crime Prevention Officer at Henry Street Garda Station, Sergeant Ber Leetch, warned that the most fundamental home security measures include making sure that keys are safely stowed away in a hidden spot, even in your own home.

That was the hard-learned lesson for a man who had burglars steal his car under the cover of night in Limerick.

Reviewing CCTV footage after the theft, the homeowner could clearly see a man entering his front garden and walking towards the back of the home, where there are no cameras, Sergeant Leetch explained.

The burglar appears only to unlock the car without any trouble and drives off, unnoticed by the owner who was fast asleep upstairs.

Uncertain that the back window was locked, the thief likely opened the door using the unlocked window, snagged the keys, and left the way he came without a hitch, the Crime Prevention Officer theorised.
