ONE of basketball’s finest players, Jason Killeen, has announced his retirement from the sport.

It brings to a close a 20-odd year playing career from college to professional club basketball in countries such as the USA, Malaysia, France, England, and at home in Ireland with Limerick Sport Eagles last season.

“It is almost impossible to reflect on what basketball has given me in my life,” Jason reflected.

“From the moment I picked up a basketball, I knew it had the potential to change my life and my prospects. From a kid growing up in Limerick, I could not imagine the adventure that it would take me all over the world for the best part of 20 years.”

The Limerick athlete said that he has been “fortunate enough to play with some very talented teammates and win a lot of silverware over the years, the proudest moment is lifting the trophy for Ireland in the National Basketball Arena”.

“There is an endless list of people who have helped me along the way, all of whom I appreciate more than I can express. I would however, like to take this opportunity to thank Colm Barry who first introduced me to basketball in CBS primary in the 1990s. This changed the course of my life forever.”

In Men’s Division One action, Eagles host Titans at UL and Limerick Celtics entertain Maigh Cuilinn (Galway) at Crescent College.

Both fixtures are timed for 7pm on Saturday.
