A MOTHER in Castletroy got the fright of her life when her home was broken into in the middle of the night, only to in turn herself scare the would-be burglars away.
That’s according to Sergeant Ber Leetch, Crime Prevention Officer at Henry Street Garda Station.
Sergeant Leetch said that the foiled break-in attempt took place just before midnight on September 13, in which the 50-year-old Limerick mother scared off the burglars after hearing strange noises downstairs.
Making her way downstairs after hearing a suspicious commotion, the Castletroy native didn’t manage to catch a glance of the intruders before they bolted, likely unaware the house was occupied.
Upon closer inspection, Sergeant Leetch said, the homeowner noticed a damaged window as well as a previously locked but now wide-open living room door.
“Signs that somebody is in a house is a great crime prevention tool,” she said.
“Leave lights on around the house and have a TV simulator on a timer in another room, even when you are in the house as it gives the impression that the house is packed with people.”
