“HEAVY and persistent rain” can be expected across Limerick throughout today as a Status Yellow rain warning is in place for most parts of the Mid West.
The Status Yellow warning came into place at midnight on Friday night and will continue throughout today (Saturday) until midnight tonight.
Issuing the warning Met Éireann said that Limerick would be in for “heavy and persistent rain” with possible localised flooding.
The Irish meteorological service also urged drivers to use caution during “difficult travelling conditions” throughout the rain warning.
Also impacted by the Status Yellow warning are counties Clare, Waterford, Galway, and Mayo.
A Status Yellow warning generally involves “not unusual weather” and “localised danger”.
A Status Orange rain warning – defined as “dangerous or disruptive” – is in place for Cork and Kerry, warning of river and coastal flooding, dangerous travelling conditions, and travel disruption.
A small craft warning is also in place along the coasts, with Met Éireann claiming that “south to south east winds will reach force six or seven at times on all coasts of Ireland”.
