Limerick senator calls for abolition of hospital parking fees for cancer patients

Limerick Senator Maria Byrne.

AN IMMEDIATE abolition of hospital car parking fees for cancer patients receiving treatment is badly needed, Fine Gael Senator Maria Byrne has said.

The Limerick senator and Fine Gael Seanad Spokesperson on Finance considers it completely baffling that hospitals across the country continue to charge full parking fees to patients undergoing cancer treatments, with many offering no concessions whatsoever.

“This practice must end,” the Limerick senator hit out. Senator Byrne said that “cancer patients already face immense challenges, and the last thing they should worry about is the financial burden of parking fees.

“There is not only a significant disparity in the parking fees charged at different hospitals, but also in how easily patients can access information about available concessions.”
