THE REDEVELOPMENT of the Arthur’s Quay area took a step forward, with the Options Report set to open for a public consultation this week.

Limerick City and County Council will publish the report on the plans for the World Class Waterfront Project, which will see the wider Arthur’s Quay area redeveloped.

Funded through the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund (URDF), the World Class Waterfront Plan will provide a comprehensive place-based approach for the redevelopment of the area to guide site activation for public and private mixed use developments, and for capital investment in public realm.

The Options Report will be published this Friday (October 4), with the plans open to public scrutiny until November 1.

The Council will also host a drop-in workshop on October 17 (1pm to 7pm) at the Citizen Innovation Lab in UL City Centre Campus on Sarsfield Street to showcase the plan.

Mayor of Limerick John Moran said that the plan is a big step in enhancing the natural beauty of Limerick.

“Our waterfront is one of Limerick City’s most important assets and harnessing, protecting, and enhancing this natural public amenity is a central element of my mayoral programme and its ambition to create a more liveable, prosperous and healthy city,” Mayor Moran said.

Vincent Murray, Director of Planning and Place-Making with the Council, said that “the Council and Metropolitan Workshop have taken a comprehensive evidence based approach in the preparation of this report, following consultation and engagement with the landowners and stakeholders of the city”.
