LIMERICK Sinn Féin TD Maurice Quinlivan has claimed that his party is well prepared for government, but will only join one that prioritises ordinary people and advances the cause of Irish reunification.
Speaking to the Limerick Post after Sinn Féin 2024 Ard Fheis in Athlone, Deputy Quinlivan said that housing, health, and the cost of living were among the central topics of conversation inside the party.
He added that the atmosphere at the conference was marked by optimism and determination as the party looks toward the general election, which he speculated might happen in the next few weeks.
“Sinn Féin has come out of this Ard Fheis ready to fight the general election. We have set out our big ideas on how we will make housing affordable, how we will deliver affordable childcare, and our plans to tackle the cost of living,” he told the Limerick Post.
“We have discussed how we support workers, families, and communities, North and South, as well as our plans to prepare for Irish Unity.”
The Limerick Deputy added the party is “on the countdown to the general election and we have set out the type of change that a Sinn Féin government would deliver if the people give us that opportunity” – a change which he says includes putting “ordinary people first”.
He also hit out that “Limerick has been left behind by this government. The crisis at UHL has been allowed to get worse, the cost of renting has spiralled out of control, and there remains thousands of people on the Council housing list.”
“The upcoming election will be a clear choice between positive leadership, real change, progress, and hope from Sinn Féin, or continued failure, spin, and more of the same from Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael,” the Limerick City TD stated.
“We are ready for this election, the people want their say and it is time for the Taoiseach to announce the election date.”
