‘Cannocks: A Social and Economic History from 1840 to 1930’ will receive a special launch at O’Mahony’s Bookstore in Limerick City at 7.30pm on October 10.

A captivating new book, Cannocks: by Frances Twomey, is set to launch with a special event at O’Mahony’s Bookstore in Limerick City on October 10 at 7:30 p.m.

This richly detailed work delves into the lives, industries, and personalities that shaped the retail landscape of the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Proceeds from the book will go toward supporting Motor Neurone Disease (MND) patients, exclusively in Limerick. The writer and her family are discharging the costs of the publication themselves.

Cannocks department store was a major employer in the late 19th century.
At its peak around 1890, Cannocks employed some 300 people, and the book sheds light on how the agricultural economy impacted wages and working conditions for its staff.

The unabridged edition will be available for the first time at the launch, and signing will be available on October 12th at 2.00 p.m. at O’ Mahony’s.

This project is not just a historical exploration but a heartfelt contribution to a worthy cause, making it a must-read for history buffs and supporters of MND alike.
