Kila are among the headliners at this year’s Eigse Michael Hartnett festival this weekend.

Éigse Michael Hartnett, the annual literary and arts festival, will take place in Newcastle West from October 3 to 6, marking the 25th anniversary of poet Michael Hartnett’s death. The festival features a wide range of events, including readings, debates, film screenings, and a special Hartnett Tour. Highlights include performances by Kíla at Longcourt House Hotel on October 5, with a follow-up children’s concert on Sunday.
The festival kicks off on Thursday, October 3, with a Parade of Lights leading to the official opening at the library, featuring guests like Mayor John Moran, poet Paddy Bushe, and the winner of the Michael Hartnett Poetry Award, Tara Bergin.
Friday offers readings from Tara Bergin, Natasha Remoundou, and Rita Ann Higgins, plus a screening of That They May Face The Rising Sun. On Saturday, Mick Clifford delivers the Michael Hartnett Memorial Lecture, followed by comedian Jon Kenny’s performance and the Hartnett Tour, including a plaque unveiling in Assumpta Park. Claire Coughlan will discuss her debut crime thriller, followed by Kíla’s evening concert.
Sunday wraps up with a conversation between former State Pathologist Marie Cassidy and Mary Dundon, and a launch by West Limerick writer Mícheál MacDomhnaill, as well as the children’s Kíla concert.
