Pedestrian assaulted by driver while crossing the road in Limerick City

GARDAÍ in Limerick City are investigating after a vicious assault by a driver left a young pedestrian at Mount Kenneth Place injured this past week.

The incident saw the driver of a BMW get out of his car and attack a young man in his 20s, who was crossing the road at the time.

Investigating officers are currently combing CCTV for more information and have issued an appeal to the public.

The victim of the assault suffered “a broken tooth and an injury to his forehead”, according to Sergeant Ber Leetch of Henry Street Garda Station.

Sergeant Leetch said the assault took place at around 11.20 on Wednesday September 25, when a man driving a black BMW car came upon “a man in his mid-20s (who was) crossing the road at Mount Kenneth Place”.

The Henry Street sergeant said the man in the BMW “beeped at (the pedestrian) and then the driver got out of the car and punched him into the face” before returning to his vehicle and driving away.

“The injured man suffered a broken tooth and an injury to his forehead,” Sergeant Leetch said.

In the aftermath of the assault, Sergeant Leetch says that investigating Gardaí at Henry Street Garda Station are appealing to members of the public who more information on the violent incident.

“CCTV is being gathered, but if anybody was in the area at that time and witness the assault or knows anything about it, contact Henry Street Gardaí at 061 212 400,” Sergeant Leetch petitioned.
