LIMERICK farmers are set to receive 3,861 payments adding up to more than €7 million through the Areas of Natural Constraints (ANC) scheme as confirmed by Fianna Fáil Minister Niall Collins who says the nationwide payments will total €184 million to 87,149 farmers.
This comes after the Irish Farmers’ Association (IFA) called on Minister for Agriculture, Food and Marine Charlie McConalogue to carry out the highest possible level of Areas of Natural Constraints (ANC) Scheme payments to as many participating farmers as feasible.
“These farmers entered the scheme in good faith, so need to be paid in good time also,” IFA National Rural Development Chair John Curran said.
The Limerick minister emphasised the significance of these payments, stating that the increased support is critical for farming families.
“In government, Fianna Fáil will continue to support farm families and protect the viability of farming livelihoods to the maximum extent possible,” he said.
“It is very welcome that the advance payments under ANC this
year are the highest level of payments issued to the most farmers ever achieved under the scheme.”
The Minister also reiterated the party’s commitment to addressing farmers’ concerns and helping them navigate the various challenges currently facing the sector.
