Joyce Brothers festival to bring the sound of music to Ballyhoura

The Joyce Brothers Music Festival returns from October 3.

COUNTY Limerick is set to be filled with the sound of music once again this year as the Joyce Brothers Music Festival returns from October 3 to 6.

The annual Joyce Brothers Music Festival brings the rich musical legacy of Limerick’s own PW and Robert Dwyer Joyce to life. The festival, set in the heart of the Ballyhoura region, boasts the best of traditional Irish music, with a program packed with concerts, workshops, and historical events.

Limerick’s musical heritage will shine during the festival’s gala opening night, featuring performances that celebrate the Joyce Brothers’ contributions to Irish music, along with the local Comhaltas musicians who have preserved their tunes.

The festival will also feature showcases from the Joyce songbook as well as workshops on traditional instruments, singing, and Sean Nós dancing.

A unique highlight this year is the Whistling Walk, combining nature and music as participants learn to whistle a tune while exploring the picturesque Poulnadiha and Kileen Fields.

AN historical walk from Ballyorgan to the Joyce homestead in Glenosheen will resonate with history lovers, as they listen to tunes played at the brothers’ ancestral home.

Throughout the weekend, free traditional music sessions will fill local pubs, providing entertainment and expertise by the likes of Brid Harper, Dermot Byrne, and Steve Cooney.

The Joyce Brothers Music Festival aims not only to honour the past but ensure that Limerick’s musical traditions continue to thrive.
