A MAJOR project on the Northside of the city to link the TUS Moylish campus with the city centre at the junction between Belfield Gardens and the Ennis Road is going to tender.

The TUS to City Centre Active Travel Scheme will include segregated cycle lanes and footpath upgrades along the Cratloe Road, Sexton Street North and High Road.

An inbound bus lane extending along the Cratloe Road from the Moylish Roundabout to Hassett’s Cross will also be provided, along with upgrade works to bus stops, side road junctions and new road surfacing.

Green Party TD Brian Leddin welcomed the announcement, saying that “the project serves as a crucial link in Limerick’s Active Travel network, improving connectivity across the Northside”.

“Once completed, it will connect into the existing lane on Brookville Avenue that leads out to Jetland and Na Piarsaigh grounds. The project will also incorporate the works at Gaelscoil Sáirséal on Shelbourne Road, making it easier and safer for many families from Woodview, Brookville Gardens and Coolraine Heights to cycle to school.”

The Green TD said that “there are some particularly good placemaking elements as part of this scheme along North Sexton Street in Thomondgate”, noting that “significant work has (already) been done by Thomondgate residents to uplift some of the local facades with murals and landscaping”.

“Once the scheme along the Old Cratloe Road is completed, it will connect all of Caherdavin, from all the way out in Shannonvale, with TUS, primary schools, and the city centre.”
