RETURNEES to Division 1A of the AIL Garryowen enjoyed the perfect start to the new season with an exciting 29-27 win over Lansdowne at Dooradoyle.

The home side were 17-10 ahead at the interval, and moved further in front into the new half but then fell behind entering the closing stages. In the end, a very late try from an alert Gordon Wood decided the issue in favour of the local side.

Ronan Quinn, Colm Hogan and George Hadden also had tries for Garryowen, while Kelvin Langan kicked a couple of conversions and a penalty. Dylan Hicks also landed a conversion.

The Light Blues face a tricky test against Clontarf at Castle Avenue on Saturday.

Elsewhere in the top flight, Young Munster – weekend winners away to UCD – entertain Terenure College at Tom Clifford Park.
