Ballyhoura Walking Festival strolls back into town in October

The Ballyhoura Walking Festival runs from October 3 to 6.

THE 28th Ballyhoura Walking Festival, Ireland’s longest-running walking festival, is set to saunter back into town from October 3 to 6, inviting strollers from all walks of like to explore the stunning landscapes of County Limerick.

The annual walking festival offers a variety of guided walks to showcase the Ballyhoura region’s rich history and natural beauty, and has been a must on the calendar of hikers and walking enthusiasts for almost three decades.

Those taking part this year can enjoy beautiful scenes on routes including the Slievereagh Walk, which traverses through native woodlands and approaches the historical Palatine settlement, as well as the Mitchelstown Food and Heritage Tour, blending culture and cuisine.

The popular Moonlight Walk to Carrighenry and a Half Marathon across Ballyhoura’s highest peaks will appeal to those seeking adventure.

Additionally, a charity walk in aid of the Irish Cancer Society organised by Sheehy’s Centra promises a feel-good experience for a good cause.

Many of the walks are led by the local Ballyhoura Bears Walking Club who have in-depth knowledge of the area’s history, flora, and fauna.

For a more relaxing experience, the festival also offers a yoga walk in Kilfinane Village and a family-friendly bug safari at the Griston Bog, an ideal event for both serious hikers and those looking to just stretch the legs.

With roots deeply connected to the local history and landscape, the Ballyhoura Walking Festival is set to be a walk in the park those looking to immerse themselves in the beauty of Ballyhoura.
