A CREATIVE troupe of artists from the RehabCare Centre on Parnell Street in Limerick City had some great big designs on success having featured, and won a number of awards, at the recent Limerick Show.

Artists from the centre proudly showcased 19 unique works at the annual show, with eight local artists and one group entry competing and coming in highly commended in categories for adults with special determination.

One high-achieving creative craft came in the form of a group project, titled “The Memory Garden”, a model which took home second place in the Handmade Craft category.

The touching tribute was created by a team from RehabCare in memory of Gerry Spillane, a beloved service user who passed away earlier this year.

The garden was a project that Gerry had held as a dear personal ambition, with his fellow service users completing the model artwork in his memory. His name is featured on a bench in the model in his honour, where he was known to sit and tell stories.

Individual artists also won top prizes, including Jane Spillane, who claimed first place in the Art/Painting category for her work, “The Lighthouse”.

Patricia Ryan won first prize in Handmade Craft for her felting picture “Woollies Cottage”.

The wins were a testament to the talents and creativity of RehabCare’s services users, showcased to massive audiences at this year’s Limerick Show.

RehabCare’s community resource centres support individuals with disabilities in reaching their full potential and enhancing their quality of life.
