Polish festival back in Limerick

Song Laboratory will take part in this week's Polish Arts Festival.

THE ONLY dedicated festival of its kind in Ireland, the Polish Arts Festival returns to Limerick this week.

With an exciting programme of events taking place across several venues including the Belltable, Limerick City Gallery of Art (LCGA), The Hunt Museum and the Record Room, the Polish Arts Festival will run from September 26 to 29.

The Polish Arts Festival celebrates Polish culture and art, nurtures new international artistic collaborations and conversations, and supports Polish artists living and creating in Ireland.

This year, the festival presents the world-famous Laboratorium Piesni – Song Laboratory, who will perform on the Belltable stage on Saturday September 28.

This year’s festival highlight, Song Laboratory, is a female group of singers from Poland, created in 2013, using traditional, polyphonic singing they perform songs from all over the world.

Other key events include the exhibition “Patching Femininity” by artist Olga Anacka in LCGA from Sept 26 to Oct 25, a video dance-music installation ‘Woman of the Seine’ by Dorota Korczycka-Bablinska in Belltable foyer, cinema screenings and talks, concerts, and an exciting programme for families as part of carefully curated PAF Kids Day, including an interactive music performance ‘Pstryk!’  – suitable for English and Polish speakers.

Every year, the Polish Arts Festival commissions a brand new original and collaborative music piece which is devised, composed, recorded and then performed live at PAF opening day.

This year, Limerick singer-songwriter JaYne and Irish/Polish artist Dora Gola were inspired by Slavic and Celtic mythology in making ‘‘Glór na Bogini’ – a brand new song premiering on September 26 on streaming platforms and live during the festival opening event in LCGA.
