EIGHT Limerick students and apprentices are set to take centre stage at the RDS when they compete in this year’s WorldSkills Ireland competition.
The yearly event is dedicated to promoting skills and apprenticeships nationwide.
Over 27,000 people will attend this year’s WorldSkills competition, including students, parents, and teachers in a celebration of apprenticeships, skills, and careers.
Eight students and apprentices from the Limerick will put their talents and knowledge to the test, competing against their peers on the national stage.
The Limerick representatives include Kieran Bolger and Charlie Ward in the Cookery competition; Keri Long in the Beauty Therapy section; Seamus Walsh competing in Mechanical Engineering CAD (computer-aided deisgn), Adam Lyons, Kevin Sheedy, and Gearoid O’Sullivan in Metal Fabrication; and Paul Buston in the Plumbing and Heating section.
Ray English, chair of WorldSkills Ireland congratulated all the Limerick students on making it to the final.
“This achievement is a testament to their dedication and skill, and we are incredibly proud to celebrate their talents,” the WorldSkills chair said.
“WorldSkills Ireland is more than a competition; it’s a celebration of skills and a vital platform for promoting apprenticeship and skills-based career opportunities. The event is designed to give students a chance to discover alternatives to university education, showcasing the multiplicity of skills training and apprenticeships on offer and profiling the long-lasting and fulfilling careers currently available across Ireland.”
Alongside the competitions, there will be demonstrations, talks form industry experts, and opportunities to meet employers who are ready to recruit.
WorldSkills Ireland 2024 takes place in the RDS Simmonscourt from September 25 to 27.
