A MULTI-MILLION euro new school in Limerick opened its doors this past week, marking a new chapter in the all-Irish co-educational community.
Gaelcholáiste Luimnigh opened the doors at its new school building on Clare Street in Limerick City, marking a new chapter in the all-Irish co-educational community college’s history, providing students with a state-of-the-art campus.
The new school was officially opened on Friday last (September 13) by Education Minister Norma Foley and Paralympian and past pupil Róisín Ní Riain.
Gaelcholáiste Luimnigh, which caters to over 750 students, is located on the former Kerry Group site on Clare Street and saw an investment of over €28million by the school’s patron, Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board.
Speaking at the new school opening, Education Minister Norma Foley said that the investment is an endorsement in the school community.
“What a truly wonderful welcome from the Gaelcholáiste Luimnigh school community here today. Thank you to the students who led me on a guided tour of this state-of-the-art new campus and to the students who spoke so passionately to me about their school,” Minister Foley said.
“This exciting new development is an endorsement of the school community for their tireless commitment, passion, and endeavour to educating the young people of Limerick and the region through the medium of Irish.”
The new school features sustainable design and state-of-the-art technology with each classroom equipped with the latest technology to support learning, as well as extensive sports facilities, including fully-equipped sports hall, a gymnasium, and outdoor all-weather playing fields.
