GARDAÍ seized over €100,000 in suspected drugs and cash during a number of raids in Limerick City this past Sunday (September 15).
According to a statement from An Garda Síochána, the raids came as part of an “intelligence-led operation”, which led to the arrest of two people, and the seizure of cash, cocaine, cannabis, and other illicit drugs.
A Garda spokeswoman said that two arrests were made after a number of planned searches at multiple locations in Limerick City this past Sunday, in which officers seized €84,560 in drugs and €18,770 in cash.
After stopping and searching a vehicle in Limerick, the Garda spokeswoman said, €35,000 in suspected cocaine was seized.
During a follow-up search of a home in Limerick City, Gardaí seized €37,100 in suspected diamorphine (a synthesised painkiller from the opium poppy), cocaine valued at €11,200, €1,260 in cannabis, and €18,770 in cash.
A quantity of coins believed to be worth €5,000 was also seized.
The drugs were sent for further analysis to Forensic Science Ireland.
The Garda spokeswoman said that two were arrested in connection with the searches, a man in his 20s and a woman in her 30s.
The woman has since been charged and was to appear before a sitting of Limerick District Court this Monday morning.
The raids were carried out under Operation Tara, an anti-drugs campaign focusing on dismantling drug trafficking networks.
Operation Tara was established by Commissioner Drew Harris in July 2021 to tackle importation, distribution, cultivation, production, and the sale and supply of drugs at a local, national, and international level.
