Councillor talks up Speaker’s Corner clean-up

Fine Gael councillor Sarah Kiely has welcomed the clean up of the Guinness site on Carey's Road.

A SIGNIFICANT clean-up of the Guinness site and Speaker’s Corner on Carey’s Road has been welcomed by local Fine Gael councillor Sarah Kiely.

The City East representative commended Limerick City and County Council for tackling what she described as an accumulation of rubbish in the areas.

The Fine Gael councillor says that the comprehensive clean-up has greatly improved the environment for local residents and visitors.

“A substantial amount of waste has been cleared from both sites, restoring the areas to their former cleanliness. In addition to the clean-up, new bollards have been installed to prevent illegal parking, which had been a recurring issue,” she says.

“These bollards will help protect the site from future misuse and maintain the area’s improved condition.”

She added that “parking in the area has been an issue for a while with residents reporting inconsiderate habits from people who have do not live locally”.

“If someone is parked on a path, blocking a gate or causing an obstruction, the Gardaí must be informed, so I would urge residents to ring them should this practice continue.”

Cllr Kiely extended her sincere thanks to the Council for its dedication and hard work in completing the clean-up.

“The CIE Club is still a blight on the area and I intend to take that issue up again with the relevant stakeholders. It also underwent a clean up recently at my request. Hopefully it remains clean as I understand it does affect the IBAL rating,” she said.
