Busiest August in 15 years at Shannon Airport

Shannon Airport is celebrating the 15th anniversary of the introduction of US Preclearance service at Shannon this year.

SHANNON Airport recorded its busiest August in over 15 years as more than 233,000 passengers used the popular Mid West international airport last month, a 5 per cent increase on the same period in 2023.

This result, according to a Shannon Airport representative, was driven by its strong transatlantic performance and bolstered by the resumption of Delta Air Lines’ New York-JFK service earlier this summer.

There was more good news in Shannon as during the first eight months of 2024, the airport recorded a 7 per cent increase in passenger traffic compared to the same period in 2023, as over 1.4 million passengers travelled through the Mid West hub.

The airport is operating to 33 destinations in 11 countries across Europe, the UK and the US this summer season, while Ryanair’s Gran Canaria service is also operating through the summer season for the first time.

Commenting on the figures, Mary Considine, CEO of The Shannon Airport Group said: We are thrilled to see such strong demand for Shannon Airport this summer season, particularly with the return of Delta’s New York-JFK service, one of our key transatlantic destinations.”
