Brilliant Limerick Motor Club win in Belgium

-

LIMERICK Motor Club have enjoyed tremendous success in Belgium.

Formally known as the ‘Escort Rally Special’, the B-Short de Momignies is a rally known the world over, giving Europe the chance to watch the famous Ford Escort Mark II rally cars up close and personal.

While the Escort is a familiar sight to Irish rallying, they are a rare commodity on European soil and the Irish never fail to bring the show in their two-wheel drive machinery.

Chris O’Callaghan of Kilcornan and his Monaghan co-driver Kaine Treanor took the top step of the podium in spectacular fashion.

Winning by 33 seconds ahead of four home crews, the pair won six of the days’ eight stages in their Ford Escort Mark II.

There were jubilant scenes at the finish ramp as family, friends, and Irish rally supporters gathered to celebrate their success.

There was further Limerick Motor Club success to celebrate as Rathkeale pair Cathal Mulcaire and navigator Podge Doody finished first in class SR23. Member Neil Phelan (Cork) was second in that class alongside Kerry’s Keith McCarthy in what was a special day for the Club.

Limerick Motor Club are constantly looking for members to join their growing club with meetings taking place on the first Monday of every month. The club can be contacted on both Facebook and Instagram.
