WITH the possibility of a promotion play-off place in the First Division now out of the equation, Treaty United will aim to move closer to some silverware in the coveted FAI Cup but face a difficult quarter-final assignment away to Wexford FC at Ferrycarrig Park on Friday (7.45pm).
The sides met recently in the League, and Wexford came away from the Markets Field as 3-1 winners.
Elsewhere, Shelbourne are away to Derry City (who eliminated holders St Patrick’s Athletic), Athlone Town host Drogheda United and UCD entertain Bohemians in a Dublin derby.
At the weekend, Treaty’s outside chances of reaching the play-offs ended with a disappointing 1-1 home draw with Kerry FC. Tommy Barrett’s side netted the leveller deep into stoppage time courtesy of Evan O’Connor.
The club confirmed afterwards the departure of Scott Kirkland.
Meanwhile, Treaty United’s Premier Division tie with Athlone Town at the Markets Field on Saturday (7.35pm) has been chosen for live coverage by TG4.
Commented Treaty manager Dominic Foley: “First of all, I’m delighted that we get the opportunity to showcase the Markets Field and the team to a national audience. There are lots of volunteers who work on the pitch and the grounds to have it looking so well so it will be great for people to be able to see that.”
“This fixture against Athlone is one of a number of games that we will be involved in that will have a bearing on the league title.”
He concluded: “We’d love to have people come along to the Markets Field, but if you can’t make it, this is an opportunity to have a look at all that’s good in Senior Women’s League of Ireland football at the moment.”
On Saturday, Treaty suffered a 4-2 away loss to Shelbourne. Treaty trailed 4-0 at the interval, but a strong second-half showing was rewarded with goals from Delana Friesan and Danielle Steer.
