IN A SHOCK announcement, all fixtures under the auspices of the Limerick District Soccer League (LDL) have been suspended.
In correspondence received by clubs from the LDL this week, secretaries were informed “that over the last number of weeks there has been numerous of correspondence between the referee’s societies, MFA, FAI, and LDL in relation to the new demands from the referees in relation to the match day/spectator set up at some grounds with astro pitches in the
Limerick area and roping off of grass pitches”.
“With no resolution to date between the Referees Society, MFA, FAI, and the LDL, the LDL have no choice but to stop all football with immediate effect from … until a complete resolution is agreed between all parties.”
The stall was put in place this past Thursday (September 12) and it is not known when playing will resume.
As a result, dozens of matches scheduled for the weekend are off the agenda.
