Staff at Limerick-based Lero honoured at International Business Awards

TWO members of Lero, the Science Foundation Ireland Research Centre for Software, headquartered at the University of Limerick, have been announced as winners at this year’s International Business Awards.

Nicola Corless, communications and marketing manager at Lero, and Professor Martin Glavin, a Lero-funded investigator, were presented with the prestigious gongs at the 21st annual International Business Awards.

Ms Corless was given a silver award in the Communications Professional of the Year category, while Professor Glavin was honoured with the bronze award in the Thought Leader of The Year – Government or Non-Profit section of the competition.

Nicola is based at University of Limerick while Martin is Head of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at University of Galway.

Judges said that Ms Corless had “exceptional skills and dedication”, lauding her for “her significant contributions to Lero, demonstrating her strategic impact, innovative approach, and measurable successes in enhancing the organisation’s media presence and engagement”.

Meanwhile, the judges said that “Professor Martin Glavin stands out as a deserving candidate for the Thought Leader of the Year – Government or Non-Profit award due to his significant contributions to public discourse on road safety and technology.”

“Beyond his extensive academic publishing and teaching, Prof Glavin has demonstrated a robust commitment to engaging with the wider public and policymakers.”

Lero director, Professor Lionel Briand, said that “Lero has built an outstanding reputation over the years and our members are key pillars of that”.

“Both Nicola and Martin are leaders in their fields who continue to be invaluable to Lero and winning these internationally recognised awards showcases this,” Mr Briand said in praise of his award-winning colleagues.
