LIMERICK people are being offered the opportunity to try out a unique virtual simulator that can mimic the experience of those living with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

Bluebird Care, in association with Limerick City and County Council, are bringing their unique simulator to Limerick on Monday (September 9), giving people the opportunity to step into the shoes of someone living with dementia.

The simulator can mimic the brain fog, memory loss, and disorientation of the condition, and aims to educate people on the realities of living with dementia.

According to Bluebird Care, there are over 55,000 people in Ireland living with dementia, with the simulator going on a national tour to mark Alzheimer’s Month, which takes place across the month of September.

The brain condition has a diverse range of symptoms, depending
on type. It affects memory, communication, and the ability to plan,
solve problems, and focus on a task.

The mobile simulator will be on display at the Jetland Shopping Centre on Monday from 10am to 5pm.

Bluebird Care said it would like as many people as possible to head out to Jetland on Monday to try out the experience and take a walk in the shoes of people who suffer with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
