Katherine Hunka has led the Irish Chamber Orchestra since 2002. As director and soloist, she has toured Europe and beyond, appeared at festivals and directed national and international tours. Katherine is a warm and friendly, vivid, and lively communicator who shares her passion for her music-making with her audiences.
THE Limerick based ICO are set to thrill their audiences with its Mozart Homage directed by Katherine on Thursday September 12 at University Concert Hall.
Her selection, a tribute to Mozart, will certainly delight. Mozart’s Divertimento K.136 brims with colour, lyricism and one can only marvel at this delicious work written by a mere 16-year-old.
Imagine Schnittke as a skilled bartender, blending drinks to create the most addictive of cocktails. In Moz-Art à la Haydn, Schnittke adds flavours giving his musical cocktail a distinctive signature. This brilliant work will leave you spellbound. Finally, Tchaikovsky’s beautiful Serenade for Strings, inspired by Mozart and Italy reflects the warmth and sunshine of the Italian countryside and the emotional journey from exhaustion to elation as he recovered from illness. The work was always close to his own heart.
With passion, soul, and exceptional skill, the ICO delivers music that is bold, fiery, and deeply moving.
ICO performs at the highest artistic standards, reaching the broadest possible audience, and serves as a catalyst for integration and social change through its inclusive engagement with children and local communities.
