ARMED Gardaí were being assisted by the Garda Air Support Unit in a planned operation across parts of Limerick City this Wednesday (September 4).
It’s understood the operation involving up to at least 50 Gardaí was aimed at targeting the activities of local organised crime groups.
It’s unclear whether the raids are linked to any other recent operations in the city, in which two guns, including a submachine gun, along with drugs and cash were recovered by Gardaí in Shanabooly Road and Crecora.
A convoy of armed Gardaí supported by uniformed members and other Garda units were observed travelling in a convoy along Howley’s Quay in Limerick City on their way to predetermined locations.
When asked for details this Wednesday, a Garda spokesman replied: “A Garda operation is ongoing at this time. We have no further details at this time.”
