MERITED home wins over Ulster and holders Leinster had already secured Munster a place in Saturday’s Inter-provincial Final in Belfast (v Leinster, 4.15pm) ahead of the weekend defeat of Connacht at Dexcom Stadium, Galway.

In the west, Fiona Hayes’ impressive unit had the contest wrapped up by the interval, ahead 22-5 (it finished 24-29).

Big scores for the visitors came through captain Chloe Pearse, Chisom Ugwueru, Alana McInerney (2), and Beth Buttimer, while Kate Flannery added a couple of conversions.

McInerney has been the stand-out player of the tournament and has now a haul of six tries in three games.

Muirne Wall was chosen as Player of the Match in the defeat of Connacht.

To win the Inter-pro, Munster now must beat Leinster again, no easy task.

Centre Enya Breen is an injury concern for Munster after her enforced departure in an earlier defeat of Leinster. Breen was Player of the Match in that key fixture.

The hugely merited win over Leinster was easily Munster’s best of the campaign, an evening when tries came from Beth Buttimer, Claire Bennett, Ugwueru, and McInereny.

Munster (v Connacht and UL Bohemian unless stated otherwise): Aoife Corey; Chisom Ugwueru, Lucia Linn (Loughborough Lightning), Stephanie Nunan, Alana McInerney; Kate Flannery, Muirne Wall; Siobhan McCarthy (Gloucester-Hartpury), Beth Buttimer, Éilis Cahill, Dorothy Wall (Exeter Chiefs), Claire Bennett, Clodagh O’Halloran, Jane Clohessy, Chloe Pearse, captain.

Replacements: Emma Dunican (Tralee), Ciara O’Dwyer, Ciara McLoughlin, Aoibhe O’Flynn, Annakate Cournane (Shannon), Nicole Cronin, Caitriona Finn, Eimear Considine.

Meanwhile, Graham Rowntree’s Munster have a friendly with Bath at The REC on Saturday, 3pm. The following Friday (September 9), the pre-season is complete with a visit from Gloucester to Virgin Media Park, Cork (7pm).

The new season opens with a URC trip to Connacht on September 21.
