MOTHER Macs Public House in Limerick City has added another accolade to its growing list of achievements.

The bar was recently awarded the prestigious title of Whiskey Bar of the Year (Silver) at the 2024 Bar of the Year Awards. The gala ceremony, hosted by Anton Savage, took place on August 19 at the Clayton Hotel on Burlington Road in Dublin, and saw over 100 businesses from across Ireland gather to celebrate excellence in the industry.

The Bar of the Year Awards are known for recognising outstanding establishments that have made significant contributions to Ireland’s hospitality sector. This year’s event was no exception, bringing together the best in the business to honour their dedication, creativity, and service excellence.

Mother Macs Public House, located on High Street, secured the silver award in the Whiskey Bar of the Year category.

Owned by brothers James and Michael McMahon, Mother Macs Public House is no stranger to the spotlight. The bar previously clinched the Traditional Bar of the Year award in 2022, solidifying its reputation as a cornerstone of Limerick’s vibrant pub scene.

Since opening its doors in 2015, the bar has grown both nationally and internationally, particularly among whiskey enthusiasts, thanks to its impressive range of Irish and international whiskeys and its commitment to providing an exceptional drinking experience.

Reflecting on the significance of the recent award, Michael McMahon emphasised the rigorous judging process that sets the Bar of the Year Awards apart.

“A key element of the judging process is the visit of a secret shopper, and as such, the awards are an important barometer to independently measure the quality of product and service in-house,” he explained.

Through its Limerick Whiskey Experience, Mother Macs offers daily whiskey tastings, allowing patrons to explore a diverse selection of high-quality products while enjoying an educational and immersive experience.

“Customers want a diverse selection of high-quality products matched with excellent customer service, and as a team, we strive to fulfil this,” said McMahon.

“It’s fantastic that the team’s hard work has been acknowledged this year, having been nominated in five categories and being awarded silver in Whiskey Bar of the Year.”

As the bar celebrates this recent success, the McMahon brothers and their team say they remain dedicated to delivering exceptional experiences, ensuring that Mother Macs Public House will continue to be a staple of Limerick’s cultural and social life for years to come.
